Bagworm rivalry
Apr 5, 2010 Senior Thesis
I have come to realize that bagworms, well…hate each other. They do! For some reason, when one crosses another’s path, it begins attaching to it via their silk lines. THEN when the other caterpillar can’t take it anymore, it crawls away. And the first worm clings on and enjoys the ride! I haven’t quite figured out why they do this. It’s fascinating to watch! But then again, I suppose if I had to pull my whole body around using only my arms, I’d probably opt for a free ride every now and then too!
I found these two pestering one another today. I think they were both trying to “silk” (not sure of the proper term here yet) on the same leaf. You can see in the second image, the bagworm finally putting his mark on it! I have close to 700 shots from this little escapade today. I can’t wait to put it into sequence!

Where are the bagworm ninjas?
